Emerson, Richard Marc, -1982
Variant namesRichard Emerson was a sociologist, University of Washington faculty member, and chair of the University of Washington Department of Sociology from 1975 to 1978. Emerson introduced the theory of social exchange, which emphasized relationships (rather than individual actions) among individuals as well as power and dependence. He was a member of the 1963 Mount Everest Expedition. Emerson died on December 23, 1982.
