In 1968, the Workmen's Circle joined the the Atlanta trade union leaders to create the Organized Labor and Workmen's Circle Banquet Committee. In 1996, this became the Organized Labor Awards Banquet Committee. For over thirty years, this committee has annually paid tribute to outstanding leaders within the ranks of organized labor, as well as raised thousands of dollars to support Georgia State University's Southern Labor Archives and Labor Studies Programs. The Workmen's Circle (or Arbeite Ring) is a Jewish fraternal order that offers a secular approach to addressing Jewish problems. The Atlanta branches of the Workmen's Circle have, for almost 100 years, offered to the city's Jewish community a full range of cultural, educational and social programs. The Workmen's Circle has been closely allied with such unions as the International Ladies' Garment Workers Union, the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, the United Hat, Cap and Millinery Workers Union, and the United Hebrew Trades. Speaking in the name of hundreds of thousands of Jewish workers in the AFL-CIO, the Jewish Labor Committee counts the Workmen's Circle as an affiliate.
