Bostian, C. H. (Carey Hoyt), 1907-

Carey Hoyt Bostian served as a faculty member at North Carolina State College from 1930 to 1973. Bostian joined the faculty at North Carolina State College in 1930 as an assistant professor in zoology. He became an associate professor in 1936, and a full professor in 1946. Also in 1946, Bostian was appointed assistant director of instruction in the State College School of Agriculture. In 1948, he became the associate dean of the School of Agriculture, and became director of instruction in 1950. During this year, he also became a professor in the genetics department. His title changed to director of instruction, School of Agriculture, in 1952. On September 1, 1953, Bostian became the seventh chancellor of North Carolina State College, and was formally installed on February 22, 1954. In 1959, Bostian resigned as chancellor in order to return to teaching. He helped establish the Faculty Senate, and served as its chairman from 1962 to 1963. Bostian continued to teach genetics at North Carolina State until his retirement in 1973.
