Botany Worsted Mills of Passaic, NJ was incorporated in May 1889. It was organized by foreign investors, mainly Kammgarn Spinnerei Stoehr & Company of Leipzig, Germany as a way to avoid textile tariffs. From 1919 until 1923, the company was operated by the U.S. government Office of the Alien Property Custodian. In 1924, it became one of several companies owned by Botany Consiolodated Mills, Inc.
