Organized by German investors (chiefly Kammgarn Spinneri Stoehr ? incorporated under the laws of New Jersey in May 1889 to manufacture and sell "worsted yarns and worsted, or partly worsted, goods;" operated by the U.S. government beginning in February 1919 under the Office of the Alien Property Custodian; returned to private control in November 1923; became one of several companies held by Botany Consolidated Mills, Inc., upon formation of that corporation in 1924; was among the mills affected by the 1926 Passaic textile strike; established a products division in 1931 to manufacture consumer goods; absorbed its holding company in 1937 after that corporation had been in receivership for five years; changed its name to Botany Mills.
