A founder of the Buffalo Medical College and the Buffalo Medical Journal. Appointed professor of medicine at Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New York City, in 1861.

Gustin Flint was a resident of Newville, in DeKalb County, Indiana. He enlisted in the army on 7 March 1864 and was mustered into the 129th Indiana Infantry Regiment. He reached Tennessee at the end of April and participated in the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain in June 1864. Flint was mustered out on 29 August 1865 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
