O. G. Herning (1868-1947) came to the Cook Inlet area of Alaska in 1898 and established himself as a miner and merchant for nearly fifty years. As manager of Expedition No. 4 of the Klondike & Boston Gold Mining & Manufacturing Company, he oversaw the company's claims in Alaska for eight years.
