John N. Whitford was Colonel of the 67th Regiment of the North Carolina Infantry during the Civil War. In a letter, Whitford writes Mr. Jesse Jones of Core Creek, N.C., exhorting him to persuade his sons to return to their company under the conditions of a general pardon.

During the Civil War, John N. Whitford (d. ca. 1894) was Col. of the 67th Regt. of N.C. Troops. In 1864 he was stationed in Kinston, N.C., and in March of 1865 he was transferred to Tarboro.
