Willoughby, Charles Andrew, 1892-1972

Charles Andrew Willoughby (b. March 8, 1892, Heidelberg, Germany-d. Oct. 25, 1972), Major General in the U.S. Army, became a naturalized citizen in 1910 and was commissioned in the infantry in 1915 after graduating from college. He served on the Mexican border and then with the First Division, American Expeditionary Force in 1917 and 1918. He was military attaché in Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador from 1923 to 1927. After graduating from the Army War College and serving as instructor at the Infantry School, he became chief of intelligence on General MacArthur's staff in the Pacific from 1941 to 1951. He retired in August 1951.
