Andrew Hynes, a soldier and planter, was born Sept. 20,1788 in Bardstown, Ky. He moved to Nashville, Tenn., in 1810 where he joined the state militia, and later served as aide-de-camp to General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. He married Ann Erwin of Home Place Plantation, Iberville Parish, La. on March 2, 1817. Lavinia, one of their seven children, married Edward J. Gay, who was to become a congressman from Louisiana.
