George Barber was born on November 11, 1826, in Cheshunt, Hertsford, England. He emigrated to Salt Lake City from England in 1850, having joined the Mormon church several years previously. There he married Adaline Hatch and Rebecca Louisa Ramond before moving the family to Ft. Supply, Wyoming, in 1855.
