George Barber was born on November 11, 1826, in Cheshunt, Hertsford, England. He emigrated to Salt Lake City from England in 1850, having joined the Mormon church several years previously. There he married Adaline Hatch and Rebecca Louisa Ramond before moving the family to Ft. Supply, Wyoming, in 1855. In 1860 George moved his two wives and young son Alonzo George to a log house in Smithfield, Utah, and in another 3 years to a large house at 170 North Main. There Barber organized the first implement store in Cache Valley, George Barber & Sons. He died on November 5, 1890, in Colonia Diez, Mexico, and was buried three days later in Smithfield, Utah.
