Biographical notes:

Professor Joseph S. Werlin was a charter member of the University of Houston faculty, having joined the Division of Social Sciences when the University was founded in 1934. He served the University with distinction and enthusiasm for 30 years.

As a man of many scholarly interests and accomplishments, Dr. Werlin was widely known as the founder and director of the University of Houston International Studies Center, and conducted educational tours for students to Latin America and Europe for over 19 years. Dr. Werlin's efforts toward furthering knowledge and understanding of the Latin American peoples and their cultures were recognized not only in the academic world but also by the governments of both Mexico and Guatemala.
