Born in New Jersey, Parke studied law in Lexington, Ky. before moving to Vincennes, Ind. in 1799. He served as territorial attorney general and judge, as a judge of the U.S. District Court, and as an Indian agent. Parke was also the first president of the Indiana Historical Society.
