Biographical notes:

Doctor Richard Henry Derby, physician (born March 12, 1844, Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts - died July 4, 1907, Dark Harbor, Maine. He served as the Executive Surgeon of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He was a graduate of the Harvard Medical School and served as House Surgeon of Massachusetts General Hospital. He studied and practiced in Europe for a time, and when he returned to the United States, worked at the Eye and Ear Infirmary in New York City. His wife was Sarah Coleman Alden Derby (1849-1907), who had died in Spain earlier March 1907.
