John Richard Mather and his son John were shipbuilders in Port Jefferson. John R. Mather's house on Prospect Street in Port Jefferson (ca. 1840) is now operated as the Mather House Museum by the Port Jefferson Historical Society.

The Dedio House was relocated and restored by the Port Jefferson Historical Society, 1974-1976, and now stands next to the much larger Mather House, which dates from the same period (ca. 1840).
