Biographical notes:

Hans Weisse was born in Vienna on March 31, 1892. A student of music theorist Heinrich Schenker, he taught Oswald Jonas and Felix Salzer. He was hired by the Mannes School of Music in New York City, and initially arrived in the United States in the fall of 1931. He served as head of the composition department at Mannes, and took U.S. citizenship in 1938. Weisse died in New York City on February 10, 1940.
