Biographical notes:

"The attached letter was written by Bartolomeo Vanzetti in his death cell at Charlestown State Prison August 12, 1927--just ten days before he and Nicola Sacco died in the electric chair for the murder of a paymaster and his guard. Henry Minott, the New England News manager of the United Press, asked Vanzetti to write his side of the case, which had been in the Massachusetts courts for seven years. Vanzetti's letter was distributed throughout the world over the United Press wires. Penciled deletions which will be noted in some parts of the letter were made by Warden Hendry of State Prison, who censored it."--Accompanying note.
