Biographical notes:

Long regarded as one of America's most gifted writers, Wright Morris authored over thirty-three books. He was born in Central City, Nebraska, on 6 January 1910. His novel, A Field of Vision, won the National Book Award in 1957, and Plains Song won the 1981 American Book Award for Fiction. In addition to his novels, he is the author of a number of photo-text books, books of criticism, and several collections of short stories. He taught English at San Francisco State College, and he and his wife, Josephine Mary Kantor Morris (1927-2002), made their home in Mill Valley, California. Morris died in April 1998.
