Biographical notes:
Author, historian, businessman, and U.S. representative; b. in Lisbon, N.H.; spent 20 years in Eastport, Me., and lived in Framingham and Roxbury, Mass.; served in Maine State Legislature and served as Whig representative from Massachusetts in the U.S. Congress from 1852-1853; in 1857 became secretary to Boston Board of Trade, a position he held for 10 years.
