Newton L. Gingrich born 17 June, 1943, in Harrisburg, Pa. Attended Emory University (BA, 1965) and Tulane University (PhD., 1968). Taught at West Georgia College, Carrollton, Ga., 1970-1978. Republican congressman for the Sixth Congressional District of Georgia in the U. S. Congress, 1978-1998. Minority Whip (101st-103rd congresses). Speaker of the House of Representatives (104th-105th congresses). Re-elected in 1998, but did not take his seat.
