Jules Verne (1828-1905). Born Nantes, France. Moved to Paris as a young man where he became friends with Hugo and Dumas, and discovered and greatly admired E.A. Poe's work. Even as Verne was writing his early dramas and comedies he passed his law degree. Considered the father of science fiction with H.G. Wells. Several of his fictions have become facts: the submarine, the space ship. Works include: Around the World in Eighty Days, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Wrote more than 60 novels.
