W. Lincoln Hawkins (b. March 21, 1911, Washington, D.C.-d. August 20, 1992, San Marcos, CA) was a chemical engineer and the first African-American to join the staff at Bell Labratories. He contributed to the development of a rubber substitute made from petroleum stock.
