Biographical notes:

Paper mill founded ca. 1773 by merchant and grist mill owner Hendrick Onderdonk and his son Andrew. The Onderdonk's ran thier business from New York City, with the mill located at Roslyn in Hempstead, later North Hempstead, Long Island. In 1797, following the death of his son Andrew, Hendrick Onderdonk sold a portion of his business to two of his surviving sons, Benjamin and William Onderdonk.
