Thomas Allen graduated from Lafayette College, Easton, Pa., where he was captain of the track team when Harold Anson Bruce was coach of the team. In the summer of 1925 he was assistant to Harold Anson Bruce, the Superintendent of the Municipal Recreation Commission of the City of Glens Falls, New York. His main duties were to coach young people and organize competitive events, mainly in track and field. In the fall of 1927 Allen was coach of the football team, the swimming team, and Assistant Head of Physical Education at Wilmington High School, Wilmington, Delaware. In 1927 the swimming team won the national interscholastic swimming title. Beginning in 1929, he was Director of Physical Education for the Schools of the City of Glens Falls and coached many of the sports teams of Glens Falls High School.
