Indianapolis Woman's Club

Variant names
Dates:
Active 1875
Active 2007

Biographical notes:

Founded in 1875 to "form an organized center for the mental and social culture of its members..." and to encourage "a liberal exchange of thought by papers and discussion upon all subjects pertaining to its objects." Religious and political topics are excluded, however, as the founders represented a variety of opinions. Founders and later members participated in public causes, including women's suffrage. A haven for free-thinking women, the club is the oldest of its kind in Indiana and is still active.
