Hide Profile

Theodore L. Steele (1905-1995) was an Indianapolis architect who specialized in institutional and industrial design. He was the grandson of Indiana artist T.C. (Theodore Clement) Steele (1847-1926). Steele and Selma Neubacher Steele (ca. 1875-1945) co-authored a biography of T.C. Steele. Selma Neubacher Steele was an artist and T.C. Steele's second wife. Elizabeth Nicholson (1833-1926) helped form the Indianapolis Woman's Club. She was an advocate of higher education and woman's suffrage, and interested in the history of the Underground Railroad. Martha Nicholson McKay (1843-1934), a founder of the Indianapolis Woman's Club, worked for woman's suffrage. She also helped found the Unity Church of Indianapolis (later All Souls Unitarian Church). Horace McKay (1841-1914) served on Indianapolis City Council and was an organizer of the Consumers Gas Trust Company. Lucy Stone (1818-1893), a founder of the American Woman Suffrage Association, corresponded with Martha Nicholson McKay in the late 1870s.
