Lieutenant George H. Pettis, was commander of Company K, 1st Regiment of Infantry, California Volunteers. He is also author of several items about his experiences in the army including Personal narratives of the battles of the rebellion : Kit Carson's fight with the Comanche and Kiowa Indians, which was published by the Historical Society of New Mexico in 1908.
