Biographical notes:

Andre Schenker was born in Vincennes, Indiana on 28 December 1897, the son of Francois Xavier and Maria (Loeiffer) Schenker . He was a graduate of the Connecticut Agricultural College and Yale University ; he also studied at Rutgers and Columbia Universities. He was a professor of history at the University of Connecticut in Storrs from 1928-1965. Schenker received the UConn Alumni Association's first faculty excellence award shortly before his retirement.

For over a decade Andre Schenker was a world affairs commentator for station WTIC in Hartford, CT, ending the broadcasts in 1949. His series of programs during the years of World War II made him one of the best-known commentators in the state.

Schenker was actively involved in the politics of Mansfield, CT, where he resided. He was the founder of the Mansfield Young Republicans and was also involved in political activities on the state level. In 1965, he served as a research aide for the State Constitutional Convention.

Professor Schenker died at the age of 74 on 20 April 1973.
