Biographical notes:

Otis Durant Duncan (1897-1970) established the Department of Sociology and Rural Life at Oklahoma A & M College in 1936 and served as its head until 1963. Duncan made significant contributions to OAMC and to the field of rural sociology. He authored many books dealing with the problems of the southwest. Duncan also served as president of the Rural Sociological Society, the Southwest Social Sciences Association, and the Southwest Sociological Society.

Founded December 1890 as Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical (A & M) College; officially became Oklahoma State University in 1957.
