William R. Buchanan of Philadelphia, Pa., served with Company A of the 29th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment. During this time, his unit was posted in Atlanta, Ga., where he was company clerk, working on the books and muster rolls, and later marched across Georgia with General William T. Sherman into Savannah, Ga.

William R. Buchanan of Philadelphia, Pa., served with Company A of the 29th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment. In the early nineteenth century, three Buchanan brothers moved from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. One settled in Chatham County, one in the area of Sanford, and the other on the upper Cape Fear. This collection contains the papers of one of the three brothers, Noah Buchanan, and his children. Noah Buchanan lived in Moore (now Lee) County, N.C.
