Robert Henderson Croll was a Melbourne public servant and part-time journalist. He was active in artistic and literary circles and an early champion of the talents of John Shaw Neilson.

Author and public servant. Had career in the Public Library of Victoria and the Education Department. Avid bushwalker, contributed articles to Bohemia, the Sydney Bulletin, the Argus and the Herald. Edited the Emu, wrote light verse, was involved with the Bread and Cheese Club, wrote a biography of Tom Roberts, edited Streeton's letters to Roberts, was general secretary of the Australian Academy of Art and was involved with the Savage Club. Also, had a keen interest in Aboriginal culture and wrote and broadcast on this subject.
