Biographical notes:

In 1801 the Middlebury Falls School District was organized. It served the area near the falls until 1815 when it joined with all districts west of Otter Creek to form the Western Village School District. The Western Village District school became District No. 4 in 1822. The school year was divided, by the state, into four terms and each term was administered separately.
