Biographical notes:
Wiswall, of Princeton, Illinois, became a nurse in the Union army hospital at Benton Barracks, St. Louis, Missouri on May 1, 1863. In November 1863 she began work as a matron at the Vicksburg, Mississippi, Soldiers Home, a rest and feeding facility for soldiers in transit, both healthy and ailing, where she spent the rest of the war supervising and doing cooking, cleaning, and nursing.
