Dilke visited Australia and New Zealand in 1866-1867 and drew on his experiences in the colonies when writing his book Greater Britain (1868). During his travels Dilke wrote to his father, describing his journey, his meetings with colonists and his impressions of the politics and economies of the various colonies. The Dilke Papers also include a long series of letters to Sir Charles Dilke from Alfred Deakin.
