Missionary and mission administrator, author, educator, founder of Church Growth Movement; born to missionary parents in India, 1897; educated at Butler College, Yale Divinity School and Columbia University; married Mary Elizabeth Howard, 1922; served as missionary in India with Disciples of Christ, 1923-1954; lectured and studied church growth patterns, 1955-1960; Director of the Institute of Church Growth in Eugene, OR, 1961-1965; dean of Fuller Theological Seminary's School of World Mission and Institute of Church Growth, 1965-1971; professor of missions at Fuller, 1965-1981; died 1990.
