Fresh Air Camp (University of Michigan)

Dates:
Active 1922
Active 1979

Biographical notes:

The University of Michigan Fresh Air Camp was started in 1921 by Lewis Reimann and Thomas Evans with the goal of providing outdoor experience to underprivileged, mostly urban youth. The camp also provided a space for university students to gain practical experience in education, psychology, social work and related fields while they worked as counselors.

In the 1960s the Camp became administratively housed within the School of Education and it changed its focus to begin working with "exceptional children."
