Biographical notes:
The University Folk Club at the University of New Hampshire started as the Women's League in 1912. At the time the school was called the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts and an increasing number of female students were attending. Because the college had few activities for female students, the female faculty members organized the Women's League. As stated in the constitution, the purpose of the group was to "promote better fellowship among the women connected with New Hampshire College". By 1919 the female students formed an independent group. The remaining adult women formed the College Folk Club. When the school became the University of New Hampshire in 1923, the club changed its name to the University Folk Club. The club organizes social and cultural events and raises money for needy female students.
