Biographical notes:

The Federation of Associated Clubs was founded in Indianapolis in 1937 by Starling W. James to unite the city's African-American social clubs for the purpose of improving living and working conditions and social opportunities. Socially, the club organized annual tours of the U.S. and numerous foreign countries.
