Biographical notes:
William Cyril O'Driscoll was born in Charleston in 1881. He attended the South Carolina Military Academy (which became the Citadel in 1910), and graduated from the Medical College of the State of South Carolina in 1905. Dr. O'Driscoll was a professor of anatomy at the Medical College of the State of South Carolina for 53 years, where he was known as a gifted and charismatic teacher. Dr. O'Driscoll used his artistic abilities to create teaching aids, painting and drawing the organs and systems of the body on whatever materials were at hand. He served as a Major in the South Carolina National Guard Medical Corps during World War I, and served in the Army Reserves for 43 years. Dr. O'Driscoll was president of the Medical Society of South Carolina and the Medico Chirurgical Club, and was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Hospital Advisory Board. He died in 1965.
