Biographical notes:

Colonel James S. Corbitt was a college professor, engineer, military officer, local businessman and historian in the Tennessee counties of Humphreys and Weakley. Colonel Corbitt was the engineering professor at the University of Tennessee Junior College (presently the University of Tennessee at Martin) from 1931 to 1933, worked with the Soil Conservation Service of the United States Department of Agriculture from 1935 to 1962, served as an Army officer during the Second World War and was the president of Humphreys County Telephone Company from 1961 to 1994.
