Resident of Everett, Wash.; enlisted in the U.S. Army Coast Artillery Corps in Washington in Feb. 1917 and after completing training arrived at Le Havre, France as part of the 63rd Coast Artillery Regiment, shortly before the armistice ending World War I; left France 13 Feb. 1919 and was discharged at Camp Lewis, Wash., 21 Mar. 1919; afterwards he attended the University of Washington, graduating with a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1924.
