Unitarian minister. A.B. Union College, 1834. Graduated from Harvard Divinity School, 1837. Minister in Wayland, Mass. (1839-1840, 1848-1863);Lancaster, Mass. (1840-1847); Weston, Mass. (1865-1876). Co-editor with Rufus Ellis of the Monthly Religious Magazine (1859-1871).

Edmund Hamilton Sears (1810-1876) graduated from Union College in New York in 1834, and Harvard Divinity School in 1837. Ordained in 1839, he served parishes in Wayland, Lancaster, and Weston, Massachusetts. His publications include Fire-side Colloquies (1847), Regeneration (1853), Revolution or Reform (1856), Athanasia, or Foregleams of Immortality (1858), and The Fourth Gospel the Heart of Christ (1872). In 1849, he composed the well-known Christmas carol, "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear."
