Biographical notes:

In 1957 (through the efforts of the Randolph Commission, the Metropolitan Housing and Planning Council and other civic and business groups), the Illinois legislature established the Northeastern Illinois Metropolitan Area Planning Commission--known later by its shortened name as the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission, or NIPC. Shortly thereafter the Chicago Regional Planning Association merged into NIPC.

Commission to solve transportation, pollution, land use, water suply and flood problems.

The commission began operating in 1958 to deal with problems arising from post-World War II growth in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will Counties.
