Rutgers University. Governors
Variant namesBiographical notes:
The Educational Planning and Policy Committee was established as a standing (as opposed to special) committee in 1950 as the Rutgers Board of Trustees Committee on Planning and Policy. The Trustees Committee was charged with conducting a continuing study of the University in terms of its organizational and educational effectiveness in order to develop sound long-term plans to promote its effectiveness in the service of state and nation, to anticipate contingencies which might hamper such service and the make appropriate recommendations to the Trustees.
The Committee had its name in 1956 to the Committee of Planning, Policy, and Development. In mid-1960, the name was changed once again to the Educational Planning and Policy Committee and has kept this name through the early 2000s. The Committee was chaired by a member of the board of governors, but the files were maintained by the Secretary of the University. Each Secretary had their own method of organization, which is reflected in the papers. The Committee has continued to meet since 1986, but the records of those meeting are not including in this collection.
