Biographical notes:

Sir Edward Dering (b. Tower of London, January 28, 1598-d. 1644) was a British politician and antiquarian. His inheritance enabled him to indulge his interest in collecting manuscripts. He became a member of Parliament, but his controversial platforms regarding church and state caused him to be imprisoned. He agreed to support the king, but was an ineffectual soldier, and gratefully retired to his antiquarian interests as well as publishing various speeches and correspondence.
