Charles Alan Pownall was born October 4, 1887, at Atglen, Pennsylvania. He received his commission from Annapolis in 1912, and served as Chief of Naval Air Training Command in Pensacola from 1944 to 1946, and later retired as vice admiral in November 1949. Pownall died on July 19, 1975.
