Biographical notes:

Paul Quattlebaum served as a captan in the Seminole Indian campaign, 1835-1836. He served as a member of the South carolina House of Representatives, 1840-1844 and State Senator, 1848-1852. Member of the Secession Convention and signer of the Ordinance of Secession. Built lumber and flour mill.

Proprietor of a lumber business, flour mill, and rifle works; served in the S.C. House of Representatives, 1840-1843, and in the S.C. Senate, 1848-1851; and a signer of the Ordinance of Secession; advocate of internal improvements; commissioner of free schools for Lexington District, S.C.; director, Columbia and Augusta Railroad, 1868-1869; resident of Pinarea plantation near Lightwood Creek (Lexington County, S.C.); son of John and Metee Burkett Quattlebaum; married, 1835, to Sarah Caroline Jones Prothro, widow of Samuel Prothro; served as captain, First Regiment, S.C. Volunteers in Second Seminole War; state militia officer, captain, Lexington Guard, ca. 1838, colonel, Fifteenth Regiment, 1839-1843, brigadier general, Third Brigade, ca. 1843-1853; Paul Quattlebaum's daughter Claudia Josephine married Thomas Furman Brodie, senior member of the firms of T.F. Brodie & Company, lumber manufacturers and dealers, and Brodie & Company, cotton factors, Charleston, S.C.
