Biographical notes:

Martin John Vincent (1827-194), historian and political scientist, Professor of European history at Johns Hopkins University. He specialized in Swiss government and laws, and was author of numerous books on the subject, including State and Federal Government in Switzerland (1891). For the last three years of his life, Professor Vincent lived in Pasadena, Calif.

John Martin Vincent was an historian.

He was born in Elyria, Ohio in 1857. He received his B.A. & M.A. degrees at Oberlin College; studied at Berlin and Leipzig before receiving Ph. D. at Johns Hopkins (1890). He was professor of European History at Johns Hopkins, 1905-1925. Martin retired to California in 1925; died, 1939, leaving large estate to The Johns Hopkins University.
