Biographical notes:

Nelson C. Nye was a Western writer originally from Chicago, Illinois. He worked as a ranch hand in Texas before owning a horse ranch in New Mexico. He studied under authors Laurence D'Orsay and Arthur Sullivant and wrote numerous Westerns under his own name and pseudonyms Drake Denver and Clem Colt. In addition, Nye was one of the founders and twice served as president of Western Writers of America.

Nye was a prolific author of Western novels. He was co-founder of the Western Writers of America and served as president in 1953 and in 1960-1961. He received the WWA's "Spur" award for best Western novel in 1959. Nye was also a quarter horse enthusiast. He raised horses and wrote many articles on quarter horses and horse racing.
